Along the way he picked up a courier job, to deliver a chip to New Vegas. He told Charon to go look after Underworld then left to Nevada. After years of that he decided he needed to do more research, and travel more. Getting Charon’s contract he left underworld and traveled DC to do research, though that quickly turned more into him ripping people apart to see what was inside them. Around the time he turned 17 he wanted to restart his mothers work to help ghouls.
Finally making it back to DC he settled back down in Underworld and lived there for a while. After about a year of being a slave he finally made his escape and killed his so called owner. along the way he was kidnapped and forced into slavery. After burring her and saying his goodbyes he left to find his way back to DC. She’d began to go feral and leaped to attack him, but was shot in the head before she could. In the middle of the night he was awoken to horrible howling noises. Half way back Red noticed his mother began to grow ill, so they continually had to stop and let her rest. Not finding what she wanted they left back to DC, around the time Red (or rather Sunny) was fourteen. Around the age of eight, he and his mother went to the Bronx to live for a while, so she could do research as to why ghouls mutate the way they do.
